Knowing Jesus Christ Through Questions
The 5 Ws of Knowing Jesus Christ
What
What is God’s purpose for you?
God loves you and created you to enjoy fellowship (relationship) with Him and He wants you to experience liberation (freedom) and renewed life, and eternal life. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
The Bible says, “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another” (Galatians 5:13). God gave humans a will and freedom of choice.
What is the problem?
Human beings choose to disobey God and willfully go their own way and disengage from God. The disconnection from God results in death. The Bible says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
Since we have disobeyed God, our hearts have turned away from God to sin. People may attempt to hide the content of their heart from others, but God can see the heart.
Even more, people have tried to bridge the gap between themselves and God through good works, religion, philosophy, and morality.
BUT NO OTHER WAY TO GOD EXCEPT ONE WAY.
Who
Who is the Way?
Jesus Christ is the way out or solution to our sin problem, the problem of the heart. Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
Who is Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is God. He is the Creator; the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
The Bible says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made” (John 1:1-3).
God, in Jesus Christ, became a man and lived among people in the community. The Bible says, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
God, in the Lord Jesus Christ, came to take the punishment our sins deserve. He died on the cross and on the third day rose from the grave. The Bible says, “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,” (1 Timothy 2:5).
Jesus Christ is the giver of liberation and renewal of life and eternal life. He came to give believers’ liberation and renewed abundant life so that anyone who believes in Him can be set free and have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of. Jesus says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). So, if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (John 8:36).
Why
Why did Jesus Christ die?
Jesus Christ died on the cross and on the third day rose from the grave for the forgiveness of our sin. We are sinners and deserve the punishment of death. The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
Jesus Christ died, without sin, for the forgiveness of sins. He paid the penalty for our sin and reconciled us to God. He demonstrated His love for us, in our weakness and sinfulness, died for us. The Bible says, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Jesus Christ is the one-time sacrifice required to pay for the punishment our sin deserves. He died for the sin of the world so that whoever believes (trusts) in Him would not perish but be saved and have eternal life.
Why follow Jesus Christ?
In the Bible, Jesus stated plainly what it means to follow Him and spoke to anyone who was inclined to hear Him and want His offer of eternal life. To follow Jesus means to deny self and let Jesus lead. It means to take up your cross; deny self-centred interests and be focused on Christ. To follow Jesus means, “you are not in the driver’s seat; Jesus is”. It means you are following Jesus to lead and teach you how to live in His way. It means you are submitting yourself to Jesus and His teachings. Every attempt to self-help is no help at all. But self-sacrifice is the way, the Lord’s way, to saving yourself, your true self. What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you? What could you ever trade your soul for? (Mark 5:35-37).
Where
Where are you?
Jesus Christ died for the forgiveness of your sin so that you may have liberation and renewed life by the power of the Holy Spirit. You can make a choice to either be by yourself (self side) or be with God (God side).
Self side or God side?
Self side?
A person who is willfully going their own way in stubbornness and rebellion lives in disobedience to God. This is a sin. A person living based on their own rules who submits to the control of self is on Self side and lives in sin.
God side?
A person who has put their trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and has received Him lives in forgiveness, liberty and renewed abundant life, and eternal life. A person living under the rule of God who submits to the control of the Holy Spirit and is obedient to the Lord is on God side.
Where can you receive Jesus?
If you open your heart, confessing and repenting of your sin and invite Jesus into your life, He will come into your life. In the Bible, Jesus says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and eat with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20). Romans 10:9 says, “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Pray Now
“Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that Jesus died for my sin and that You raised Him to life. I choose to trust Him from today as my Saviour and follow Him as Lord. Guide me by your Holy Spirit and help me to do your will in the name of Jesus, Amen.”
Now, you have received Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour.
